Micro-Needling At Hillcrest & Tamahere Dental
At Hillcrest & Tamahere Dental Centre, we take a health-focused approach to every treatment, so you are always in safe, qualified hands.
Before your treatment, Bex (our therapist) will assess your skin and discuss your goals to determine that this treatment is right for you. For some skin concerns, a course of treatment is recommended (for example, once every 4-5 weeks for 5 appointments).
We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, so your treatment will be based on your individual skin goals.
- A numbing cream is applied and most people feel no pain, although some describe a tingling sensation. Your comfort will be monitored throughout.
-Using a professional pen-style Micro-Needling device, controlled microchannels are created in the skin to stimulate a natural healing response, boosting collagen & elastin production.
-While you may experience a little flushing or warmth, you should be able to return to your daily life straight away.
Bex will provide you with guidance about caring for your skin after your appointment and what to expect next.
Is Micro-Needling Right For Me?
Unfortunately, not everyone is a suitable candidate for Micro-Needling. If you're wondering if your skin or health condition might prevent you from having Micro-Needling, please give us a call. Bex will give you a call back to discuss your concerns.
Does It Hurt?
Numbing (Topical Anaesthetic) cream is applied to your skin first. While it the procedure shouldn't be painful, some people do feel a prickly or tingling sensation. Bex will monitor your comfort throughout the appointment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
This depends on your skin and what you're hoping to achieve. A course of treatment may be recommended for some concerns. Bex often recommends an appointment every four to five weeks for four to five months - usually over autumn, winter & spring.
When Will I See Results?
Skin changes develop progressively. Depending on your individual goals, Bex will let you know what to look for an when, as well as some other things you can do to support healthy skin.

How Long Does Treatment Take?
Allow approximately 60 minutes for your appointment.
Can I Wear Makeup Afterwards?
Bex will provided specific aftercare instructions, including when makeup and your usual skincare routine can be resumed.
Will It Work For Acne Scars?
Micro-Needling may be appropriate for some types of acne scarring, but not all. Bex will assess your skin before treatment to determine whether it's a suitable option for you.
What About Sensitive Skin?
Sensitive skin does not automatically rule out treatment but Bex will need to assess you.
Can I Have Micro-Needling If I'm Pregnant?
Micro-Needling may not be appropriate during pregnancy - please call and discuss with Bex first.
Do I Need A Consultation First?
If you don't have acne scars, sensitive skin, are not pregnant, and don't have any significant skin or medical conditions then you don't need to have a consultation first. When you call to make your appointment, Bex will give you a call back to just go over a few basics.

Will My Skin Be Red?
Some redness, warmth and sensitivity can occur, but most people are able to get on with the rest of their day with no downtime.
I am originally from Hamilton and moved back here after traveling and living abroad for a few years. I have a husband and 2 spirited children who keep me very busy outside of work. I still like to try and get to a few Rock concerts throughout the year and keep fit at the gym.
